J.D. Powe

Over the past 20 years, technology entrepreneur J.D. Powe has assembled a world-renowned natural history collection featuring intricate Victorian dioramas populated with anthropomorphic squirrels engaged in whimsical pursuits, extremely rare "big game" animals from the late 19th century by masters of the craft and a stunning array of obscure curiosities that would make even the most jaded sideshow curator envious.
Currently, J.D. serves as Founder & Publisher of Permanent Record; a quarterly print magazine, whose tagline "Unconventional by Nature" exemplifies the eccentric spirit of its founder and the unique content within its pages.
J.D. has curated and co-produced multiple exhibits on historical taxidermy at institutions such as Brooklyn's Morbid Anatomy Museum (Taxidermy: Art, Science & Immortality, 2016), The Adirondack Experience (Curious Creatures, 2019), and ApexArt Gallery in Tribeca (The Nature of the Beast: Meditations on Life, Death & The Art of Collecting, 2021). His first published book, Best Friends Forever (Abrams, 2021), provides a poignant pictorial tour of one of the world's most astounding collections of taxidermy pets with meticulously preserved specimens dating back to the 1850s.
J.D. Powe earned a B.A. in the History of Science from Harvard University in 1999.
